The rampant non-consensual PK stalled UO’s growth within 5 months of it’s September 1997 launch. It also attracted all manor of discontents, greifers, and ner’do wells. This server was meant to bring thse back. Many people feel that the days before Trammel were the glory days. This made the PvP area a ghost town, much to the dismay of the Pk’ers. To stop the playerbase from hemoraging, the devs created a new land that didn’t have PvP, called Trammel. Then EQ was released, which started an exodus. This varied from people who engaged heavily armed guilds, to ijits who killed n00bs at spawn points over and over and over.Īs it was the only game in town, everyone had to play with the PK’s, the good and the bad. They did this with great amounts of glee. Especially- if you’re running it for a target audience made up of ex-players who didn’t like the way the “real” MMOG was run, and might have even been kicked out for what they did.Īt one time, UO was very friendly to people who wanted to kill other players.
